VARIETY:BOURBON, CATUAI, CATURRA
NOTES: CHOCOLATE MALT, CHERRY, BROWN SUGAR
This coffee is brought to us by a cooperative in Fraijanes, which is one of 8 different coffee regions recognized and marketed by Anacafé. Growing at at average of 1,630 MASL and over 150 years history of growing coffee in Fraijanes, this region produces delicious and quality focused coffee. Coffee plays such an important role in this area that there is a town fair set at the end of harvest season where they crown one lucky lady as “The flower of coffee”.
There are 34 members in the coop, each with approximately 1.75 acres of land where they cultivate their coffee. Approximately 10% of these members are women and 5% are young farmers, and this number is rising with more young people actively farming. This fact is a very important one to think about considering the sustainability of coffee. With more and more young people moving to urban areas or looking for more profitable ways to earn a living, it is leaving many family farms without someone to take over the family business of coffee and it is not an attractive business for youth to get into. However, with this number rising in the area, it is really good news for the future of coffee in Fraijanes.
We are excited to have add this coffee to our warmth line for the first time this year.
