Red coffee berries on a branch with green leaves

Nafkot Admasu

High in the hills of Gedicho, Yirgacheffe, Nafkot Admasu grows coffee on a small 1.8-hectare farm inherited from her father. Before turning to coffee production, Nafkot was a teacher at a local primary school. Today, she grows Ethiopian landrace varieties beneath the shade of false banana trees, a familiar sight on farms throughout the region.

Nafkot has worked with Ephtah since 2022, contributing coffee from her own farm alongside cherry grown by nearby family members. Ephtah supports production at Gedicho through pre-financing and equipment, while its Ama Commitment program supports the surrounding community through initiatives including a nearby handicraft and daycare centre.

For this natural lot, ripe cherries are carefully selected and floated before drying on raised beds for 12–15 days. The coffee is then hand-sorted by local women before beginning its journey to export. The result is juicy and fruit-forward, with plenty of sweetness and the vibrant character we love in naturally processed Ethiopian coffees.
