Gedeb Chelbesa

Gedeb Chelbesa is a washed Ethiopian coffee produced in Chelbesa, a community in the Gedeb district at the southern edge of the Gedeo Zone. This coffee was produced with Ephtah Specialty Coffee, a women-founded and led exporter headed by Wubit Bekele, with a focus on strong producer relationships, community engagement and creating more opportunities for women in coffee.

Coffees from Gedeb are often grouped under the famous Yirgacheffe name, but the region has a distinct coffee identity of its own. High growing elevations and an ideal climate help produce incredibly expressive coffees, with washed lots especially known for their clarity, sweetness and lively fruit character.

During harvest, Ephtah’s Chelbesa site employs more than 170 people to receive and process coffee from the surrounding area. This washed Landrace is clean, juicy and refreshing, with plenty of fruit sweetness and a delicate, tea-like finish.
