Monogram co-owner and co-founder, Ben Put, earns 3rd place at the 2025 World Barista Championship in Milan
A milestone moment for Monogram Coffee and one of the most decorated baristas in the world.
Monogram is thrilled to share that our co-founder, Benjamin Put, has placed third in the world at the 2025 World Barista Championship, held in Milan, Italy. Competing among over fifty national champions, Ben represented Canada with a performance that was as heartfelt as it was technically brilliant.

Ben’s set, titled Small Pieces, was a deeply personal reflection on mentorship, gratitude, and community — a love letter to the people who’ve shaped him into the coffee professional he is today. He began by asking the judges to picture someone who had profoundly influenced their lives, then invited them to carry that person with them throughout the presentation. The concept was simple yet powerful: when we truly know and learn from others, we carry small pieces of their wisdom within us.

Throughout his routine, Ben paid tribute to four individuals who have profoundly influenced his journey:
-
Mariana Iturralde of Finca Takesi in Bolivia, whose pioneering work at the world’s highest-altitude coffee farm represents courage and innovation.
-
Jamison Savage of Finca Deborah in Panama, known for precision, experimentation, and pushing flavour boundaries.
-
Wilford Lamastus of Elida Estate in Panama, whose century-long family legacy embodies dedication and consistency.
-
And Christopher Hendon, professor of chemistry at the University of Oregon, who inspired Ben to explore the science of flavour.
Across his three courses — espresso, milk, and signature — Ben shared coffees and ideas that represented these mentors’ influence. He began with a blend of Geshas from Mariana, Jamison, and Wilford, each grown above 1,900 metres and united by clarity and sweetness. His milk course, inspired by his collaboration with Professor Hendon, used a frozen layer of freeze-distilled coconut milk to transform flavour as it melted — an inventive nod to how learning evolves over time. Finally, his signature drink combined elements from each course — floral terpenes, mango, and citrus — to symbolize the transformation that happens when shared knowledge and creativity collide.
Working closely with his long-time coach and Monogram’s Director of Education, Jill Hoff, Ben brought focus, curiosity, and generosity to every moment on stage. Jill’s partnership has been integral to Ben’s success, helping transform ideas of connection and community into world-class performances.

This was Ben’s seventh appearance at the World Barista Championship, a milestone that cements his place as one of the most accomplished and respected baristas in the world. His ability to evolve, inspire, and reflect the heart of coffee continues to define not only his legacy but also the spirit of Monogram.
We’re endlessly proud of Ben, Jill, and the entire Monogram team who supported this journey. Their artistry, humility, and dedication to the craft embody everything we believe coffee can be — imaginative, inclusive, and full of wonder.
