We believe coffee should inspire wonder and warmth.
After working in the specialty coffee industry in many roles for many cafes in different cities, we came together with the belief that exceptional coffee should inspire wonder and warmth. We’ve grown a little bit from our humble beginnings as a pop-up coffee cart in the lovely DaDe Art and Design Lab, but we’ve never lost sight of the fact that to us, amazing coffee cannot exist without amazing people.
Our team is a lovely bunch. Behind the apron, we are photographers, foodies, hikers, and musicians. There are science geeks, number geeks, and everything in between. Throw in a couple competitive speed-skaters and climbers and you’ve got the Monogram Family. But what brought us all together was a passion for taking care of our community and the diverse people that are a part of it.
Amazing coffee is just one small part of who we are. To us, coffee represents an incredible opportunity to positively change people’s lives, through meaningful connection and generous service. It’s about leaving things better each day- for our people, our relationships and our environment. And, if we can spark someone’s imagination around what coffee can be along the way, then we’ve done our jobs.
Let’s explore the wonderful world of coffee together!
We work closely with our partners to understand their needs and build quality coffee together. We believe that each time we buy coffee from a farm, it should build their capacity, our understanding and leave them better off than before. We hope to create a community based on trust and support that builds quality in a sustainable way.
Every season, we pride ourselves on being able to present to you some of the world’s most delicious coffees, freshly harvested and processed by people who care deeply about producing exceptional coffee for you and I.
However, our sourcing model is more than just travelling around the world to find great coffee.
We approach our sourcing model and philosophy through the framework of our values.
We aim to foster traceable, personal relationships with producers and the people responsible for our coffee, at every step of the supply chain. These connections must be meaningful, with our involvement always adding value to our partners.
As a roaster, we have a responsibility to ask ourselves how we can serve our producing partners. This involves listening to the unique needs of the producers and finding a way that we can serve them. This might mean committing to a farmer’s entire production to give them stability, assisting with community development projects, or understanding the true challenges of being in coffee production and working together to address them. But at the bare minimum, we serve our producing partners best by paying the highest prices that we can for their coffee, that covers their cost of production and rewards them for exceptional quality and effort.
The heartbeat of our coffee program is our commitment towards an exceptional level of coffee quality, working with producers that approach everything they do with excellence. These are coffees that are not only incredibly sweet, clean and balanced, but have wonderfully expressive intensity of flavour that tell the story of the variety, processing, soil and effort behind them.
As our relationships grow each year, we continue to learn how we can continue to improve. Not only in the quality of the coffee, but in how we serve and continue to build community with our producing partners.
Do you remember the feeling that you had when you tasted your first, jammy Ethiopian natural? Or your first encounter with an incredibly clean, sweet and rich Guatemalan. Or perhaps it’s the timeless experience of the floral and tropical characteristics of Gesha. We seek to find coffees that will spark your imagination. Whether these are experimental processing lots, new varieties, or unexpectedly crazy flavours, coffee should always inspire wonder.
