Red coffee berries on a branch with green leaves

Gedeb Lalesa

Gedeb sits at the southern edge of Ethiopia’s famous Yirgacheffe coffee-growing region, where some of the country’s most expressive coffees are grown and processed. Lalesa is part of this distinct coffee community, known for naturals that can be intensely fruity, floral, and wonderfully vibrant.

At the Lalesa drying station, ripe coffee cherries are carefully sorted before being spread across covered drying beds. These greenhouse-like roofs protect the cherries from direct sunlight, slowing the drying process to around 20–25 days. Throughout that time, the coffee is continually turned and monitored, helping develop plenty of fruit and sweetness while keeping the cup beautifully clean.

Lalesa is owned by Ephtah Specialty Coffee, a women-founded and led Ethiopian exporter headed by Wubit Bekele. Ephtah works closely with producers and processing stations across Ethiopia, with a focus on quality, stronger communities, and creating more opportunities for women throughout the coffee industry. We began working with Ephtah last year, and we’re excited to continue exploring the coffees coming from their growing network.
