Esnider Rodriguez

Introducing a delicious new coffee from Costa Rica’s West Valley—this one’s been a long time coming. For over six years, we’ve been tasting coffees from the dynamic duo of Esnider Rodriguez and Esteban Villalobos. This year, the stars aligned: perfectly ripe Villa Sarchi cherries from Esnider’s farm, Alturas de Lourdes, paired with Esteban’s signature natural process. The result? A filter coffee that bursts with orchard fruit sweetness and layers of warming spice.

Esteban is a bit of a coffee wizard. He processes coffees at Cafes de Altura, a large mill with a big focus on quality. He’s known for experimenting with fermentation and drying techniques—think stainless steel tanks, carefully monitored temperature and pH levels, and lots of patience. This particular coffee dried slowly on raised beds with an extended resting phase, allowing deep fruit character to develop alongside those unique gingersnap and cider notes.

Villa Sarchi, the variety behind this coffee, is a natural mutation of Bourbon first discovered in Costa Rica. It’s a compact plant that packs a serious flavour punch—think apple cider, gingersnap cookie, and a hint of juicy blackberry. It’s a true taste of the West Valley, and we’re thrilled to finally share this beautiful expression from Esnider and Esteban with you.
